aRugged and wild, PNG’s Eastern Highlands Provence (EHP) produce some spectacular and incredibly unique flavours. This region is vastly different from the more familiar Western Highland’s. Almost all coffee in EHP is produced by small-holder growing communities, most living subsistence livelihoods with coffee as their only cash crop. With its lofty altitude, harvest in the East typically starts around May and ends around winds down around August/September. Production and processing here are rustic, though, with recent improvements in pulping and drying equipment in growing communities and better processing practices, many small-holder growing groups are producing incredible coffees and the potential to improve further is immense.
